Nootropic Beverage Formulation
Cognition and focus products live or die on dose honesty. A label full of impressive names at fractional amounts is easy to make and hard to defend.
Dose before roster
The temptation in this category is a long ingredient list. The better product usually has a short one at meaningful amounts. We start by deciding which inputs are actually carrying the experience, budget the serving size and cost around those, and only then consider supporting ingredients.
Many recognised cognitive inputs need doses measured in hundreds of milligrams. Fitting three of those into a 2 oz shot, in solution, without a medicinal taste, is a formulation problem — not a marketing one — and it's the reason serving format and ingredient roster have to be decided together.
What we work through
- Ingredient selection against dose, solubility and cost per serving
- Compatibility between actives, and with caffeine when included
- Masking bitterness and earthiness from botanicals and amino inputs
- pH and buffering, since several inputs are pH-sensitive
- Stability over shelf life, including colour and active degradation
- Format choice: shot, can or bottle, driven by the dose arithmetic
- Supplier selection and documentation for branded ingredients
Caffeine and no-caffeine builds
Focus products split into caffeinated and caffeine-free lines, and each needs its own formula rather than a dilution of the other. Caffeine-free builds lose the perceptual cue that tells a consumer the product is working, so the sensory experience has to be designed to carry more of that signal.
Responsible claims
We develop products intended to support focus, attention and mental clarity. We do not formulate toward or write claims that a product treats, cures or prevents any condition, including attention disorders, cognitive decline or anxiety. Where an ingredient's reputation exceeds its supportable positioning, we say so during development.
