Endurance Product Development
Endurance products are the only beverages evaluated under stress. A formula that tastes excellent at a tasting table can be undrinkable at hour two of an effort.
Tolerability beats flavour
The category's real metric is whether an athlete can keep drinking it. That makes concentration, sweetness intensity, body and mineral balance more important than flavour creativity. Products are developed at the concentration they'll actually be mixed to, and tasted warm, because that's how they get consumed.
Development considerations
- Carbohydrate system and blend ratio for delivery and tolerance
- Total concentration and how it affects gastric comfort
- Sweetness intensity calibrated for repeated intake, not a single sip
- Mouthfeel: enough body to feel substantial, never syrupy
- Electrolyte load matched to duration and conditions
- Amino inputs and their bitterness and solubility limits
- Flavour fatigue over a long session
- Powder dissolution in a bottle, shaken by hand, cold water
Fuel and hydration together
Endurance products usually have to deliver carbohydrate and electrolytes at once, which pulls the formula in two directions: fuel wants concentration, hydration wants dilution. Resolving that trade-off against the intended duration and conditions is the core formulation decision, and it is made before flavour work begins.
Claims and dosing honesty
Products are developed to support endurance, hydration and recovery, with amounts that match the positioning. We don't build formulas whose performance story depends on ingredients present at token levels.
