Sports Supplement Formulation
Performance products are consumed mid-effort, often warm, often in volume. That's a harder sensory environment than a cold drink on a couch, and it changes the formula.
Hydration and electrolytes
Electrolyte products are mineral-salt systems first and flavour systems second. Sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium each contribute a different off-note — saline, bitter, metallic — and the total mineral load determines both the taste challenge and the product's positioning. Osmolality matters for how the drink is tolerated during activity, and it constrains how much you can load without making the product heavy.
Endurance and intra-workout
- Carbohydrate systems
- Blends such as glucose and fructose combinations, chosen for delivery rate, sweetness and mouthfeel at the concentration an athlete will actually tolerate.
- Mouthfeel and weight
- A drink that feels syrupy at rest becomes intolerable at effort. Body is tuned to the use case, not the tasting table.
- Warm-condition tasting
- Performance drinks are evaluated at ambient and warm temperatures, because that's when they're consumed.
- Amino systems
- BCAAs, EAAs, citrulline and beta-alanine bring strong bitterness, sourness and solubility limits that dominate the flavour design.
- Recovery formats
- Post-workout products can carry higher dose loads and heavier body, which opens up options the intra-workout format doesn't allow.
Ready-to-drink versus powder
RTD wins on convenience and shelf presence but carries water, weight and freight, and forces every solubility and stability question to be solved permanently. Powders and stick packs carry higher dose loads at lower freight cost but shift the dissolution problem to the consumer's shaker. We pick the format against the dose you need and the channel you're selling into.
Claims and testing posture
We develop products intended to support hydration, endurance, performance and recovery, with dosing that matches the positioning. Where a brand intends to pursue third-party testing or certification for competitive athletes, we factor that into ingredient and supplier selection during development rather than after.
